Pair of Michigan men facing credit card fraud, larceny charges

If you drive northeast of Ann Arbor for about 50 miles, you will come to the Detroit northern suburb of Troy. The city of about 80,000 residents prides itself as a business and shopping destination for the metro area, but also features a pair of LA Fitness workout clubs.

The Special Investigations Unit of the city’s police department recently arrested two 19-year-old men on charges of credit card fraud and larceny. Law enforcement officials say the men had been spotted entering locker rooms at various LA Fitness outlets and stealing items from lockers.

The men – one is from Detroit and the other is from Ferndale – reportedly went to a retail video game store and attempted to make a purchase with a credit card they had allegedly stolen. Troy Special Investigations officers, along with officers from the Bloomfield Township Police Department, said they stopped the transaction and arrested the two suspects.

Bond for each of them was set at $25,000, a news report stated.

Those who are accused of felony credit card theft or credit card fraud in Michigan face potentially harsh penalties if they’re convicted. Our state’s Penal Code states in no uncertain terms that you could be sentenced to up to four years behind bars in a Michigan state prison. In addition, you can be ordered to pay restitution and significant fines. Of course, sentences can be increased in instances where a defendant has multiple fraud offense (or other offenses) on their record.

If you are under investigation or have been arrested on these charges, contact a Michigan attorney experienced in white collar defense.
